What and How download maps for Garmin GPS Legend HC?

I use my GPS for geocaching. Its obvious when looking at the map that came with that I have download a different map. By the sounds of things a topographic map, perhaps? Need to know what suggestions do you have for the map I have and what I have to go Garmin. They are so expensive I hate to pay more than $ 100.00 for the map. Can I download from the Internet?
